Srinagar, Jul 08 (KNO): Former District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Safina Baig on Wednesday joined the National Conference at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subh, Srinagar, here in the presence of party president Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah.
Safina, wife of former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig, was formally welcomed into the party during a joining programme attended by senior National Conference leaders.
Speaking to reporters after joining the party, Safina, as per the news agency — Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said she had been contemplating joining the National Conference for a long time.“ It is the party that truly represents the aspirations and expectations of the people,” she said,
Praising Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's leadership, she said she was satisfied with the way he was running the government despite the difficult circumstances.
"I am satisfied with Omar Abdullah. Despite immense challenges, he is managing the government in Jammu and Kashmir," she said.
When asked about the National Conference's manifesto, Safina said she had joined the party today and it would not be appropriate for her to comment on it immediately. However, she expressed confidence that the party would make every effort to fulfil its commitments.
"I won't respond to the manifesto since I joined the party today only, but I am confident that the party will do its best to fulfill promises," she said.
Safina's induction is seen as a boost for the National Conference, particularly in Baramulla district and other Pahari areas of Jammu and Kashmir, where she has maintained a significant political presence—(KNO)
